Bingo Dictionary: Lingo and Calls

Bingo is a game enjoyed by players across the UK for many reasons, but one of these includes the exciting bingo calls and lingo involved in gameplay. Each ball has its own rhyme, which is called alongside the number when the ball is pulled. As you can imagine, these calls are only used at local bingo halls, so if you want to play online, you don’t need to worry about learning them. Keep reading for a full bingo dictionary.

These rhymes were adopted to distinguish similar-sounding numbers like 13 and 30 or 16 and 60, so it’s worth getting to know them to avoid getting confused while playing. The other great thing about these calls is that they are used country-wide and do not change from game to game, which means you will still hear the same calls if you’re playing 30 or 90-ball bingo.

Other Bingo Dictionary Sayings and Terms

The different types of bingo calls aren’t the only lingo related to bingo that players should learn. There are also various sayings related to bingo gameplay; we have listed these below to help new bingo bettors.

Money Ball: This is a number pulled at the start of the game, which will double a player’s winnings if bingo is reached on that number.

Daubers/Dabbers: These are the pens used to mark off the numbers on your bingo ticket. They are similar to highlighter pens, but rather than a pointed tip they have a large round end covering the whole number in one motion.

Call/Caller: Relatively self-explanatory – when a ball is drawn, the caller will ‘call’ out the number for players to mark off.

Patterns: These are the shapes, symbols, or letters players are required to mark off on their card(s).

Admission Packet: This is the minimum number of cards that must be purchased to play a game (bingo halls only).

Blackout / Full House: In this game, a player must daub out all of the numbers on their bingo card to win.

Jackpot: These are large prizes given to the first player to complete a difficult pattern within a specified number of balls.

Yes, the bingo calls will be the same whether you are playing 30, 50, 75, 80, 90, or any other variation of bingo.
